LncRNA GAPLINC is up-regulated in gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. Up regulated GAPLINC is associated with tumor size, lymph node status and survival time of gastric cancer patients, and predicts poor prognosis of colorectal cancer. GAPLINC promotes proliferation and invasion of these two cancer cells. In gastric cancer, GAPLINC regulates cell invasion by controlling CD44 expression via competing for miR211-3p, while in colorectal cancer, GAPLINC regulates cell invasion through binding to PSF and NONO.

LncRNA GAS8-AS1 is the secondary most frequently altered gene and acts as a novel tumor suppressor in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). As a mutation hotspot, the c.713A>G/714T>C dinucleotide substitution is found among most patients with GAS8-AS1 mutations and associated with advanced PTC disease. Interestingly, the wild-type GAS8-AS1 (A713T714) shows consistently higher capability to inhibit cancer cell growth compared to the mutated type (G713C714).
