LncRNA GHET1 is up-regulated in bladder cancer (1), colorectal cancer (2) and gastric cancer (3). Increased GHET1 expression is correlated with advanced tumor status, grade and poor prognosis of bladder cancer and gastric cancer. Functionally, GHET1 promotes cell proliferation and invasion (1, 2, 3). Mechanistically, GHET1 negatively regulates p16 and p21, thus promoting cell proliferation. Moreover, GHET1 increases expression of vimentin, Snail, Slug, Twist, ZEB1 and fibronectin (mesenchymal marker) and decreases E-cadherin protein level (epithelial marker). As a consequence, EMT is promoted, and cancer cell invasiveness is increased (1, 2). In gastric cancer, GHET1 suppresses EGFR mRNA and protein level (4), GHET1 can also bind to IGF2BP1 protein and up-regulates c-Myc by increasing c-Myc mRNA stability (3).
