Description

LOC728606 is up-regulated in prostate cancer (PCa). LOC728606 is detectable in plasma samples and increases incrementally from healthy individuals to those with localized and metastatic PCa. The study identifies a LOC728606-associated expression signature (PES), which is highly PCa-specific and activated in metastatic vs. primary PCa samples. The PES is significantly associated with androgen receptor (AR) signaling. Accordingly, AR activation dramatically up-regulates LOC728606 expression in vitro and in vivo. LOC728606 silencing significantly inhibits PCa cell proliferation and triggers caspase 3/7 activation, with no effect on non-neoplastic cells. LOC728606 silencing also inhibits PCa cell migration and invasion (1).
